Teenagers

Teens are so challenging.  Life is hard on them and us as parents and as a family. Funny thing is they know the family rules they just seem to "forget" them. Unless you break a rule!

I just finished reading a novel about a Amish teen. And while the Amish don't have all the modern technologies that Englisher have, the character struggled with making good choices. Choices that may harm themselves and others. Like telling their parents they are going to work, but really driving with man in a rain storm, and being alone with the man for hours in a deserted barn. So many things could have gone wrong, or happened, yet even a shelter Amish girl made bad choices.

Does that give me hope? Does is frighten more? Yes, to both but also it sort of helps knowing that even  very strict religious and sheltered teens don't make great choices.

I think they need control of their lives, but they just don't have enough life experience to know if they are making good choices or not. I just pray that someday 10 o more years from now, we all teens included can look back at this laugh and rejoice they are past this time of their lives.
